How to check the SASSA SRD grant application status?

To ensure that you are all set to receive the next payment, follow the instructions below and check your application status. 

  • Navigate the official website of the SASSA Social Relief of Distress at https://srd.sassa.gov.za/.
  • On the web portal, you will see an option that reads ‘Check Status’; click on it and go to the next page.
  • Lastly, fill in your ID number and mobile number, then click on the Submit button to check the payment status.

Alternatively, you can check it by dialing 0800-60-10-11 or using the Moya app. It can also be checked by sending an SMS in the format ‘<ID Number> Status’ to 32555.

What to do if the SASSA SRD Grant is delayed?

If more than the waiting time has passed since the payment, that means your SASSA SRD Grant is delayed. In this situation, you shouldn’t be worried because it can be resolved. The first thing you need to do is check the details you have provided to get the payout; if everything is okay with it, then get in touch with the SASSA’s officials to know the reason. 

SASSA SRD Grant Eligibility 

To get the Social Relief of Distress Grant from the SASSA, it is mandatory that you meet the eligibility requirements:

  • You must be a permanent resident of South Africa and living in any territory of the country. 
  • The age requirement is 18-59 years; if you haven’t turned at least 18 or are above 59, you can get this benefit.
  • You don’t have any source of income, i.e., only unemployed individuals are eligible to get a payout.
  • If you get a Child Support Grant, Disability Grant, or NSFAS support, you can’t get the financial help.
  • Make sure that you don’t receive more than R624 as support or salary from an informal sector.

The additional requirements to get the SASSA’s SRD benefits include a mobile number in your name and a valid 13-digit South African ID.

How to apply for the SASSA SRD Grant?

If you are employed and you meet all the requirements to get the SRD grant, then please follow the instructions to apply online.

  • Go to the SASSA SRD grant web portal at https://srd.sassa.gov.za/.
  • Find and click the option that reads ‘Apply For SRD Grant’ in the header menu bar and tap on it.
  • Firstly, you need to fill in your mobile number and South African ID and click the Next button.
  • Enter the OTP received on the mobile number and click the submit button to access the dashboard.
  • Fill in your personal details: name, surname, gender, address, and employment status.
  • Choose the payment method; it is recommended to go with the bank account—as it is safe and faster.
  • Review the application, read the terms and conditions, submit the application, and get a printout of the confirmation page.

After the final submission of the application for the SASSA SRD, please wait for 7 to 10 days for approval. Once the authorities have verified your application, you will start getting the monthly payout of R370.

What if your application for the SASSA SRD is rejected?

If your application for the SASSA SRD is rejected, don’t worry—you can appeal. Before doing so, please find out the reason behind it. It can be any of the following:

  • Alternative income source identified: Your bank account shows monthly deposits above R624.
  • UIF registered: You’re listed as receiving Unemployment Insurance Fund support.
  • NSFAS registered: You’re getting student financial aid from NSFAS.
  • Other social grants received: You’re already getting a SASSA grant (e.g., child, disability, etc.).
  • Identity verification failed: Your ID couldn’t be matched with Home Affairs records.

To appeal to the SASSA, go to the web portal at https://srd.dsd.gov.za/appeals/, enter the required details, and submit the application.

Hi my phone got stolen in January meaning lost of sim too I was struggling from February right till now I done swap an got my old number back was assist by countless sassa helpers,!!!re applied got approved went to shop rites times they said only mtn is offline.went again insufition funds but all 5months said approved still not able to draw going for
    Months what should I do
