DWP Cold Weather Payments: In the United Kingdom, the first Cold Weather Payments worth £25 was activated this week. The payment will be provided to individuals who’re getting certain benefits or Support for Mortgage Interest if the average temperature in their area is recorded as zero degrees Celsius or below over 7 consecutive days.
Eligible individuals will automatically get cold weather payments of up to £25 for every seven day period of extremely cold weather between 1 November 2024 and 31 March 2025.
DWP Cold Weather Payments
As temperatures drop and snowfall covers various parts of the United Kingdom, the Department for Work and Pensions has activated its Cold Weather Payments program for a maximum of 18 postcode areas of the UK.
Under this scheme, more than 10,000 residents in the eligible areas will get a maximum of £25 as a cold weather payment to cover their heating costs. These payments are issued by the DWP each time when the average temperature in an individual area is recorded as, or forecast to be, zero degrees celsius or below over seven consecutive days.
To get the benefit amount individuals need to satisfy the eligibility requirements of this program. Eligible individuals will get up to £25 for each 7 day period of very cold weather between 1 November 2024 and 31 March 2025.
Who is eligible for the DWP Cold Weather Payments?
Cold weather payments will be provided to individuals who satisfy the below listed eligibility requirements.
- Interested individuals need to be a permanent resident of England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Individuals who reside in Scotland cannot get Cold Weather Payments but they can get an annual Winter Heating Payment.
- The average temperature where individuals live must be below 0C over 7 consecutive days.
- To receive the payment from this scheme, individuals need to have a valid bank or building society account.
- To qualify, individuals need to receive following benefits:
- Pension Credit
- Income Support
- income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
- income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- Universal Credit
- Support for Mortgage Interest
When and How will you get your child weather payments?
Eligible Individuals will receive a cold weather payment of £25 for every seven (7) day periods of very cold weather between 1 November 2024 and 31 March 2025. After every very cold weather period of your area, you may get a payment within 14 working days.
The cold weather payments will be paid into the same bank or building society account in which your qualifying benefit payments are delivered.

What to do If you do not get your Cold Weather Payments on time?
If you do not get your Cold Weather Payments 14 working days after each cold weather period of your area then you need to wait at least two to three business days before contacting the officials.
You must check or update your bank or financial institution details such as account number or mailing address. If individuals think that they should have received a Cold Weather Payment but they have not until the expected date then it is advised to contact the Pension Service or Jobcentre Plus.
If an individual is receiving Universal Credit then it is advised to you please sign in to your account and add a note to your journal about the payment delay but if individuals don’t have an online account, you can call at the Universal Credit helpline instead.
