The payment of OAS is generally released by the Canada Revenue Agency at the end of the month, as the payment schedule for the year 2026 has been released, you can check the month-wise payment dates from the table below.

When you will receive your OAS payment depends on the payment gateway you receive the payment through. If you receive it through direct deposit, you will get the amount in your bank account on the same day the payment is released and in case of a paper cheque, you will have to wait for about 2 to 3 days.
OAS benefit payments are usually received on time, but some recipients may experience delays. If there are technical issues, direct deposits may be delayed by up to 72 hours, and if Canada Post is experiencing a heavy workload, paper cheques may take up to a week to be delivered.
OAS Payment Rates 2026
The CRA has revealed the OAS 2026 payment rates. The amount you will receive depends on your age. The maximum rates OAS recipients will receive each month between January 2026 and March 2026 is detailed below.
- If you are between 65 and 74 years old, the payment you receive each month between January and March is going to be $742.31.
- If you are 75 years of age or older, the monthly payment you will receive between January and March is $816.54.
The payment rate for the OAS benefit is reviewed quarterly and can be increased with inflation. It means that details for the first, second, third, and fourth quarters will be made public in due course, and we will update the information accordingly.
OAS Eligibility Criteria 2026
To receive payments under the Old Security Security (OAS) programme, you must meet the eligibility requirements, which are listed in detail below.
- You are a Canadian citizen or legal resident of the country and must be at least 45 years old.
- If you are currently living in Canada, you must have spent at least 10 years in Canada after turning 18 years old.
- Canadian citizens who are currently living outside of Canada in another country are also eligible to receive the benefit, but there is a requirement that they must have spent at least 20 years in Canada after turning 18 years old.
- There is no minimum income requirement to receive the Old Age Security benefit, but if your income is very high, the benefit may be reduced due the OAS recovery tax (clawback).
Note that there are two types of old age security benefits: full and partial. Full benefits are received by those who have spent at least 40 years in Canada after turning 18, and partial benefits are for those who have spent at least 10 years in Canada.
