The Newfoundland and Labrador Disability Benefit is a financial assistance program provided to disabled individuals in Newfoundland and Labrador who have very low incomes. The payments are administered by the CRA, and the benefits are paid monthly.
The objective of the Newfoundland and Labrador government in providing this financial assistance is to ensure that disabled people with very low incomes do not fall behind in meeting their basic needs. Currently, thousands of disabled individuals are benefiting from this program.

NLDB Eligibility Criteria 2026
To apply for the Newfoundland and Labrador Disability Benefit, you must be eligible. We have listed the details regarding eligibility below.
- You are a Canadian citizen and a permanent resident of Newfoundland and Labrador.
- You must be between 18 and 64 years old.
- You must have received approval for the Federal Disability Tax Credit.
- You have filed your federal tax return for the tax year 2025.
- Your adjusted family net income must be between $29,402 and $42,404. If both spouses are approved for the DTC, the range is $29,402 to $55,404, for the benefit year July 2025 to June 2026.
NLDB Amount 2026
Beneficiaries of the Newfoundland and Labrador disability benefit can receive $4,800 over the entire benefit year, meaning that each eligible individual receives $400 per month.
One thing you should know is that in Canada, the benefit year runs from June to July, meaning the amount of $4,800 is for the period between July 2025 and June 2026. The payment rates for July 2026 to June 2027 will be published soon by the CRA and will be slightly higher than the current rates due to inflation.
The maximum monthly benefit of $400 will only be received by those whose adjusted family net income is $29,402 or less. If the AFNI is higher than this amount, the benefit gradually reduces, and if the AFNI reaches or exceeds the maximum threshold, no benefit is received.
The payment rates for the 2026-27 benefit year will be announced shortly by the Canada Revenue Agency, after which we will update the details on this page. To stay updated on this matter, please bookmark this webpage.
