What’s the Enzo Data lawsuit about?

A lawsuit against Enzo Biochem and Enzo Clinical Labs was filed in June 2024 by plaintiff Eliana Epstein over the ransomware incident on Enzo’s computer network, which resulted in unauthorized access to Enzo files. 

The lawsuit says, during the network incident, personal information of individuals and former patients was compromised and exposed to criminal hackers. The report says around 2,069,627 notices were sent regarding this ransomware incident about their potential information leaks.

Through this settlement, Enzo Biochem and clinical labs have agreed to implement or adopt the following data security measures for at least a year to offer relief to their customers:

• They will encrypt the customer’s personal information stored in their data collection and maintain it using the encryption method to safeguard the customer’s sensitive information.
• They plan to implement multiple-stage authentication for users’ accounts for remote access, even for administration accounts, to enhance data protection. 
• They plan to improve the policies for the use of strong & complex passwords to protect the information from unauthorized access. 
• The company plans to install a reasonable intrusion detection and prevention system to detect unauthorized access to the system and be prepared for such cyber attacks. 

Enzo is offering to compensate the individuals who have received notice of the data breach and potential data leak for the 2023 data breach and have claimed the settlement.
